Okay, you guys. I am definitely not one for product reviews and unpaid endorsements (this is definitely unpaid), but my BLURB Uganda book arrived last week and I am totally totally obsessed with it. It’s absolutely beautiful.
I designed every aspect of the book, from the cover to the pages. I used professional album design software (Smart Albums), which I know isn’t accessible for everybody, but I am totally confident that you can download Book Smart and get the exact same (well, similar) results using the free Blurb software.
After designing in Smart Albums, I actually had to upload the images to Blurb through Book Smart… It’s a pretty easy to use and straightforward software. (You do download it to your computer instead of just accessing it online.)
My book is MASSIVE. With an entire month’s worth of both professional and iPhone photos, I had a lot that I wanted to remember from the trip. In this case, the book was 277 single sided pages, which gives you 125 ish paper pages.
They’re professional style photo pages, so you get the full quality of the image. They’re fairly thin, bendable, but sturdy. They aren’t about to rip easily, which is nice.
I ordered a standard portrait book, 8X10. I think it’s a fantastic, manageable size that also lets you appreciate the photos. Will be ordering the same size again!
I spent about $90 on it, including shipping. It was supposed to be more, but I did a quick google search and found a 20% off coupon. They also sent me another one when they shipped this off. I think you could probably find a 20% off coupon for Blurb pretty much any day of the year. Take note – this time, that saved me about $25 ish. So expensive partly because I had such a massive book of photos. If you took a shorter trip or aren’t as much of a photographer as me, you probably won’t have so many images to include…
We also did a TON of things on this trip and fifty years from now, when who knows where my files are or what software is like, I want to be able to cozy up on the couch with my family and look through these images. I’ve already done that a bit, besides the added fifty years (hah!) and loved it. I DEFINITELY plan on making a book of our Europe adventures (hopefully even before I leave for South Africa!). I’ll also be bringing whatever I’ve got to our family Thanksgiving this year; everybody wants to see photos and I know this is going to be the perfect way to show them off!
Each cover has a full image that wraps around a bit. High quality, hard cover, personalized… I really love it. I was totally bummed when I ordered that the software wouldn’t let me upload a full wrap around cover, but now that I have it in my hands, I actually prefer it that way: easy to read on the shelf, and it looks quite nice. 🙂
So there ya go. Super happy customer (although I wish it shipped faster! I picked the cheapest shipping and it took a few weeks.). I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer – hoping to make a book of all of our travels this year (so, another one for backpacking through Europe, another for South Africa, and one for our two weeks in Thailand, when we get back).
Maybe I’ll even make one of our assorted California adventures or time at home? We shall see!
But anyways. Get your summers organized and printed. It’s the most wonderful thing. xo
