You all know I’m a huge fan of the theater and love live music, so when SHN approached me about their new show American in Paris, I jumped at the opportunity to attend. I love the Orpheum, with it’s gorgeous marquee and stunning old interior and I love that I can rely on them bringing good shows to San Francisco.
Earlier this year I saw The Lion King (incredible costumes) and won the Hamilton lottery (lives up to expectations) and loved both. Of course American in Paris would impress.
I’d never seen the movie before, so going in to this I had a completely open mind. I was wowed by the good storytelling and wide variety of dancing on stage. Without losing sight of the storyline, this show weaves in tons of beautiful music and mesmerizing dance.
The show moves quickly and covers a lot while still managing to let you get to know the characters and fall in love with them. There are strong actors and lots of fun personalities.
On top of that, I was impressed by the stage design! They bring you right to Paris and in various spots within the city with minimal but visually dramatic scenes. The sets might have been my favorite part of the show!
All in all an excellent date night. Glad we got to experience this show, which deserved every minute of the standing ovation that it received. Yay!
American in Paris is at the Orpheum in San Francisco from now until October 8th. Hurry and go see!
SHN provided me with two comp tickets in exchange for posting about this event on social media, but I am a HUGE fan of this theater and would recommend this show even if I had paid full price. It’s magic and I am happy to work with SHN!
